Storage
Want to know the key to a home that feels good and works hard for you?
It’s quite simple = Storage!
Sounds straightforward right? BUT the important aspect is ensuring you have the right storage and that it is in the right places.
If I was given £1 for every client that told me they don’t have enough storage, well I wouldn’t be here writing this blog, I would be on the beach in the Maldives!
The truth is most homes do have enough space for storage but what they have is the wrong type for the items its occupants own.
Grab yourself a cuppa and perhaps even a biscuit or two and join me to discover my top storage tips …..
Declutter Your Space
I feel like most of my blogs start with this tip but with the statistic that 80% of the items in our home are used less than once a month it is a tip that needs implementing regurarly to prevent overwhelm setting in.
There is no point implementing storage solutions for items you no longer need, love or use. Not only does it cost you money but it costs you energy to have surplus items in your home so start clearning before you invest in any storage solutions.
Declutter surplus items and care for the ones you have
Built In Storage
To replicate a high end design look in your home in-built storage should be your first port of call. By having storage built to fit your space you can maximise the vertical space in your home and create the perfect space to display your books and treasures. This nook has been designed to fit the sofa which helps ground it to the space making it look as though it always been there.

Look Up
Don’t forget to utilise wall space. Areas above doors are perfect for books for display items. This is especially important in areas that tend to be smaller like the bathroom.
Secret Doors
Good design should be fun, adding a unique and intriguing feature to your home such as a hidden room accessed through a jib door
This hidden door with a bookshelf was designed by Architect, Peter Pennoyer.
Banquette Seating
Banquette seating is not only an excellent way to fit a lot of people around a table but also the perfect solution for providing much needed storage space underneath. Take the time to think about what you need to store before designing your seating to make sure it suits your needs. These cubby holes are best utilised with baskets that can be pulled out to make accessing your stored items easier.
Utilise Dead Space
Under the stairs is a perfect example of dead space that is ripe for reimaginging. Frequently used to house either a loo or coat and shoe storage you can also let your imagination run wild and consider a bar, pet area or home office.
