Declutter Your Home To Clear Your Mind by Dilly Carter
So tell me are you as obsessed with Sort Your Life Out on BBC1 as I am? Isn’t it the best heart warming and utterly motivating programme?
Stacey Solomon and their team transform the lives of families whose homes have gotten out of control. Central to the operation is Dilly Carter; the absolute Queen of Decluttering. Dilly is one of the UKs top organisers and has been working as a decluttering expert for over 25 years. Dilly’s aim is to help you create a beautiful, practical, and organised living space that you will truly love.
Published in 2021 Create Space is a guide to implementing the solutions shown in the show. The book is divided by room and encourages you to really consider your living spaces by addressing 4 fundamental questions :
1) What is your vision for the room?
2) Does this room reflect who you are?
3) Can you tackle this alone?
4) Are you ready to set aside a full day to tackle it?
Handy hints and tips are included throughout as are personal reflections on her own life drawing on the experience of growing up in a loving but chaotic home.
I love how Dilly encourages you to truly understand your home and the items within it. Clutter is subjective, the items in my home are precious but in yours might be junk. Knowing what is important to you is crucial to desinging a home that reflects you. Regularly checking in on an items importance is also crucial, it may no longer need to stay in your home.
You don’t have to be a hoarder to read this book or need to reduce the number of items by 50% (as they do in the Sort Your Life Out Show) to implement the solutions within it.
I would not class myself as a hoarder but having recently learnt about manifesting and the energy that items hold I have removed lots of items I no longer wish to own from my home.
I love that Dilly also provides tips on your purchases (no point getting rid of everything to simply replace it with new stuff). She gently challenges you to find the “why” in your purchases. Are you buying something your really desire and require or are you self soothing?
I highly recommend this book, not only is it beautiful (the hot pink and acid yellow cover combination is my absolute favourite) it is full of wisdom that will no doubt help you to Create Space in every aspect of your life.
